How to open your own fire systems installation business

* The calculations use the average data for the World

Installation of fire alarms is an important point in the improvement of premises, and the need for their installation is clearly stated in the legislation. OPS (security and fire alarms) allow you to timely inform people in the building about an emergency, send an alarm to the fire department, as well as extinguish fires and eliminate smoke; the latter is especially important, because often during fires people die not from the fire itself, but from inhalation of the resulting combustion products. Many enterprises install automatic fire alarm systems - autonomous fire alarm systems - not only in accordance with the law and requirements that allow the operation of the premises, but also for the actual prevention of the negative consequences of a fire. In this regard, the market for the installation of fire systems is constantly in demand.

Today, many private security organizations (private security organizations) establish an automatic fire alarm system, but they most often do this when they receive an order for the installation of an alarm system and a fire alarm system is mounted as an additional product. At the same time, there are not very many enterprises that are directly involved in installing fire systems in some cities, which gives a chance to a novice entrepreneur to organize a business that always provides relevant services. A shortage of consumers is hardly to be expected, because in addition to organizations that are simply obliged to establish an OPS, an increasing number of individuals are beginning to think about personal safety. But in connection with this, in his activity, he will have to develop different strategies for promoting his product, as well as offer installation of systems that are designed for different financial capabilities of the customer. However, it is a professional approach to the implementation of their services that will allow them to quickly gain their place in the market and gain clientele.

This business has become especially relevant since May 2011, when amendments to the fire safety law were adopted. It provides for a more serious responsibility of enterprises that do not fulfill the prescribed conditions, because even the most irresponsible businessmen are ready to pay for the installation of the fire alarm system than to pay thousands of fines. The fire alarm in good condition should be in any building where a large number of people are constantly. Fire safety requirements are very strict, a whole department monitors their compliance, but this also means that the installer who installed the system is responsible for its correct installation, start-up and configuration. In this regard, an enterprise that wants to engage in the installation of an OPS must undergo appropriate registration.

But first you need to register as a business entity. In order to make it easier to obtain a license, it is better to register a limited liability company, which is a legal entity, with the right to work under a simplified taxation system. It is also necessary to choose the right OKVED code, the activity itself falls within the definition (OKPD 2) 80.20 Security systems services. After the registration is successful, you can proceed to directly obtain a license. It is issued by the department of the Ministry of Emergencies, and in order for the application to be considered, the following package of documents should be transferred to the licensing authority:

A) the application for a license

B) notarized copies of certificates of registration of the company as a legal entity and entry into the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (for individual entrepreneurs, into the Unified State Register of Industrial Enterprises) and tax registration;

C) notarized copies of the constituent documents of the company (charter, constituent agreement);

D) the second original (with a blue seal of the bank) of the payment order to pay the fee for issuing a license;

E) certified company seal copies of documents confirming the qualifications of employees engaged in licensed activities;

E) certified copies of the company’s seal or extracts from documents certified in the established manner confirming the experience of employees in the field of fire safety;

G) documents confirming that the license applicant has the premises, communications, equipment, tools, instruments and documentation necessary for carrying out licensed activities.

Also, the direct manager of the enterprise itself (it does not have to be the founder or individual entrepreneur) should be at least secondary specialized technical education in this area and at least 5 years of experience in the relevant field. Every five years, all employees must also undergo training in fire safety.

To simplify your task, you can contact specialized companies that can provide support in obtaining a license (and even solve all issues for the entrepreneur), but their services cost a lot of money. The term for consideration of the application is 1-1.5 months. This license will allow you to engage in many types of activities, and not just the installation of fire alarms, which provides opportunities for growth and opens up several prospects for further activities. It should also be noted that some such enterprises enter into a self-regulatory organization (SRO), which somewhat simplifies the work, it is necessary to carry out certain types of work and increases the level of customer confidence.

Next, you should take care of your own office, which will become a service site and representative office. The room does not have to be very large, the main thing is that it is possible to place all your equipment there and there is a place for work for employees who work only in the office, without leaving orders. At the same time, you do not need to look for a place in the city center, you can save by renting a room in areas that are inexpensive in terms of property rent. PSMs can install systems at facilities that are connected to the PSM system itself, and thus the client’s system is constantly monitored and managed in case of emergency. And the security company instantly receives information about what is happening at the facility, sending a task force if necessary. However, in the case of exclusively fire alarms, the alarm message should ideally be transmitted as quickly as possible not to the company that installed the system, but directly to the fire department. Also, the facilities always have their own control panel, and the person on site responsible for fire safety makes a decision.

In any case, making a completely isolated system is risky enough. But it must be borne in mind that according to the current legislation, not all types of facilities must automatically transfer information about a fire to the fire department or emergency committee; for example, such objects among office premises are those with an area of more than 500 m2.

Also, if there is no possibility or desire to have your own office and do something other than the direct installation of systems, then you can conclude agreements with companies that, by the nature of their activity, are engaged in the installation of certain systems; these are already called PSAs in the first place. The fact is that the security organization receives a license for (surprisingly) only the security activities that are issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the fire department often does not have (because this is a completely different piece of paper issued by another agency). Thus, by concluding an agreement with a private security company, you can mount your systems on partnerships: both the entrepreneur is doing his job and the private security company immediately offers the client a range of services. Only in the future, it will still be necessary to service the fire alarm itself, because the BSM does not have the right to do so. But it is worth noting that recently these systems are often integrated into one, and today even a private security company sometimes acquires a license to install fire systems.

Often an access control and management system (ACS) is also ordered for the fire system. From the point of view of fire safety, it is important because it allows you to automatically open all fire exits, even if in normal mode they are blocked or have access restrictions. She lowers the elevators to the first floor, swinging open their shutters, opens electronic locks, disables access by cards, raises barriers and removes protective turnstiles; that is, thanks to her, it becomes possible to move freely around the building, which is necessary for the evacuation of people. Thus, the control and control panel is mounted, which is connected to the sensors and the relay module.

When sensors are triggered, information is transmitted to the remote control, which is serviced by a special person. He can assess the degree of risk, determine the level of danger, whether a false signal has worked (he can also give false signals for a training alarm), find out the source of fire, inform the people in the building, special services and decide if panic at all. It is clear that this must be a specially trained person. In emergency situations, the system itself turns on the alarm, transmitting information to the relay module, which, in turn, is connected to sound / speech and light warning systems.

Technically, AUPS can be performed in completely different ways, and this is connected not only and not so much with the financial capabilities of the customer, but with the immediate features of the object. Firstly, the type of sensors that can be smoke, heat, etc., but conditionally divided into active and passive, is determined. Active react if their constant signal changes, while passive ones are sensitive to environmental changes. If the sensor is triggered, the alarm itself is turned on, the ACS unlocks the entire path, and the fire extinguishing and smoke removal system is turned on; at the same time, the APS and the vital devices of the enterprise are switching to an energy-saving autonomous mode, receiving power from uninterruptible power supplies.

The fire extinguishing system can also be very different, and familiar water has long been considered an effective method of extinguishing a fire. This is not due to the fact that water extinguishes the flame poorly (just the opposite), but it can lead to a short circuit in the wiring circuits, as well as damage to property no less than a fire would do. Therefore, in addition to the water and water methods of extinguishing a fire, there is a powder and, most often used now, gas. The latter is most effective, since it uses gases that either displace, replace oxygen (a necessary element for maintaining the combustion process), or react with combustion products, taking away energy from them, which would otherwise go to maintain fire. Using gases can reduce damage by an order of magnitude - after all, water can spoil much more things than CO 2 or N 2 . However, this method can not be called ideal, because, displacing oxygen, gases take its place, which leads to the inability to people in the room for some time - there simply is nothing to breathe.

The responsibilities of the installation company therefore include many tasks. Only a fully equipped team of professionals will be able to deal with a large enterprise, which should include an electrician, an electrical engineer, a programmer, an installer, a fire safety specialist (team leader, foreman), a radio technician, and assistants. After all, the system needs to be installed, connected to the power supply of the enterprise, implemented in other systems, set up all devices, check the operability and carry out commissioning of the entire complex.

Also, the brigade directly forms a plan for rescue and evacuation in the event of a fire, which must be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the law and accepted standards. Sometimes it is necessary to attract individual specialists who can supply water, powder or gases to the installation, and if the customer’s enterprise is not very advantageous with regard to communications, this problem must be solved by planning and supply. Separately mounted smoke exhaust system, which must be provided with ventilation and special devices. Specialists also establish the location of fire extinguishers, determine the location of the fire stand, conduct a conversation with the company management about the appointment of a person responsible for fire safety, and then instruct the employees. In addition to the places of manual alarm, an automatic alarm is configured. With private households and apartments, things are usually much simpler. However, this is only the beginning of cooperation with the client.

Fire safety requirements are constantly being reviewed, improved, and changed. Therefore, it is especially important at the first need to carry out readjustment, restructuring or improvement of the entire APS. Therefore, the company that installed the fire system concludes an agreement with its client on scheduled maintenance and repair. This implies a periodic visit to the facility, as well as unscheduled in the event of a system failure. Thus, it is possible to receive a steady income from those facilities on which a fire system has already been installed, which reduces the entrepreneur’s risk of being left without any income; because even if there are no new orders, with a huge number of partners you can earn only on maintenance. Constantly have to report to the fire department about the installed systems, their maintenance on them and, of course, transmit information about the facility and establish its automatic communication with the fire department. Today, an alarm signal is transmitted, as a rule, on a specially allocated radio frequency.

The cost of installing a fire system for a client consists of two parts - the cost of equipment and the cost of specialists. Moreover, the entrepreneur personally orders the device and brings them to the object, the client additionally pays for the delivery, but not the extra charge of the entrepreneur on the devices themselves. The cost of installation and other work depends on how many devices you need to install and how complex the system will be. On average, the cost of one order only for work rarely exceeds 10 thousand rubles, although, of course, for large facilities this amount is several times more. Also, special coefficients for the complexity of installation or some special conditions are usually set, and sometimes only thanks to this you can double the cost of your work.

The cost of servicing an object directly depends on the size, and starts from about 2 thousand rubles for small objects, but at the same time each additional call is paid separately, and the larger the room, the more expensive this call. But the cost of monitoring and scheduled maintenance in terms of one square meter decreases with an increase in the facility.

Such a business is good because, gradually developing, you can begin to engage in many additional services related to fire and not only safety. Sometimes, an offer may even come from insurance companies that offer to offer property insurance to their clients for a fee. This can also be interesting for the client if he wants to completely protect himself from risks.
