Sea Salt Market Review
Nowadays, more and more people prefer individual pools to public pools. The increasing standard of living, the active construction of "townhouses", cottages and simple private houses made the pool one of the most sought-after elements and attributes of middle-class life. By and large, your own pool has long ceased to be a luxury, turning into a kind of sports simulator at home.
Many modern pools are equipped with additional technical devices that compensate for the lack of size (pumps that produce countercurrent water so that you can swim in place), poor water quality (special filters) and much more that distinguishes a pool in the courtyard or basement of the cottage from a real reservoir. Not without its marine theme: there are already pools that simulate the surf and special sea salt to add to the water. The latter is used quite often and widely, provided, of course, the availability of additional special equipment designed for working with salt water: bronze pumps, titanium heat exchangers and electrolyzers for disinfection.
However, the Russian market is experiencing a clear shortage of sea salt for pools. In addition, all the few samples offered are imported, mainly from Mediterranean or Adriatic water. This factor significantly affects the cost of sea salt in the direction of increase. Not worse, and the Black Sea salt present much closer is completely ignored.
The above points contribute to the fact that the production (or even production) of sea salt can become a completely new, and in addition, extremely profitable business in our country.
Equipment needed for the production of sea salt
Dry sea salt can be obtained in two ways: by evaporating it from water artificially, i.e. in distillation cubes or special thermal boilers, or natural - using the energy of the sun and wind.
The first method is faster, but at the same time more costly (to use it, you must purchase the appropriate equipment and production facilities - moreover, in the Black Sea, resort, zone where many industrial production is prohibited by law). However, he has a plus: the lack of seasonal dependence.
The second method is somewhat slower, but much more preferable from the point of view of protecting the environment and the reputation of the company. In addition, the use of this method makes it possible to produce goods not only formally, but also qualitatively classified as hand made - made by hand. Actually, that is what it is. In addition, most Western firms of this profile use the second method. We will consider it in the framework of this article.
To evaporate sea salt in a natural way, you should purchase several (exactly how much it depends on your starting capital and scope of the enterprise) aluminum, titanium or bronze containers - shallow, but quite large in area. They will serve as evaporation tanks.
It is desirable that their inner surfaces do not have sharp angles, and the ratio of side length to depth is about 11: 1. In addition, you will need a pump and a filtration tank for primary accumulation and purification of water.
Among other things, of course, you will need a packing line (the type of which, again, entirely depends on your desire - do you want to sell salt in bulk, for example in big bags, or at retail, in bags or bottles) and the appropriate transport (if you are not going to use the services of a third-party transport organization) - van (s) or tilt (s) truck (s).
Sea salt production: a brief description of the technology
Containers are filled filtered out from particulate matter, sand, etc. sea water and simply exposed to the sunny side. During the day, and on especially hot summer days - and several hours, the water will quickly evaporate, leaving a layer of salt on the bottom and walls of the tank. As you can see, the procedure is simple and can easily be performed even by unskilled workers.
However, there are a few comments regarding the technique of the work. The optimal production season is the summer months - not only because of the maximum intensity of sunlight, but also because of the chemical (solution) composition of the water. Sea water should not be taken simply as salty. Sea water is a whole complex of various elements and substances with a large number of properties. It contains copper, zinc, manganese, iodine, phosphorus, necessary for the body.
And in the summer, the balance of substances is such that it is most suitable for processing, and, so to speak, “canning”. In addition, there is a global factor in increasing the concentration of salts in the sea in general due to more intense evaporation. The third argument, of course, is more convincing for a fairly large production - because the concentration rises by a maximum of 1-2 1-2.
In total, the concentration of salts in sea water is about 35 ‰, or 3.5%. In other words, evaporating a ton of water, you get only 35 kg of salt. But don't let such seemingly modest figures bother you - after all, “production” costs you absolutely free: the withdrawal of water from the sea is not prohibited and is not regulated administratively; solar energy is also in the public domain.
By and large, money is received practically "from the air" (although in this case, it would be more appropriate to recall the old slogan about the sun, air and water).
How to advertise sea salt
If you will conduct any kind of advertising campaign - it doesn’t matter in print, electronic or television and radio media, the main emphasis should be on the usefulness of the product.
First of all, seawater promotes blood renewal, as it contains all the substances necessary for this. But the main property of swimming in sea water is the complex strengthening of the body. When a person moves quite intensively in water, his skin absorbs the surrounding fluid, and therefore all substances that are in the composition of sea water penetrate inside. Then, with the help of blood, they are distributed throughout the body. At the same time, the circulatory system is stimulated, oxygen metabolism improves, and the body is cleansed of harmful substances. After bathing in salt water, the skin itself becomes more elastic.
The bromine in salts, which is part of seawater, has a calming effect. Thus, swimming in sea water will be useful to people suffering from hypertension and related diseases.
In countries with unfavorable ecological conditions, or in regions far from the sea, the organisms of local residents lack selenium, a substance that is abundant in seawater but absent in most foods. Selenium is an antioxidant, i.e. an element that helps protect cells from destruction by harmful particles formed as a result of metabolism (metabolism). Lack of selenium leads to diseases of the heart and thyroid gland. Also, immunity to colds and bronchitis is reduced.
For those who are overweight (obesity, obesity, etc.), swimming in sea water will help to lose a few pounds - salt water is denser than fresh, so, for example, for diving and scuba diving, extra effort is required.
Among other things, swimming in sea water favorably affects the overall well-being from a psychological point of view - from the sedative (psycholeptic) effects of bromine, the “spa effect” begins - mental relaxation, which contributes to mental and emotional relaxation.
As you can see, sea salt can be used not only as a simple addition to swimming in the pool, but also has a positive medical effect.
Payback and prospects for the production of sea salt
Based on the virtually zero material cost of production (sea water is supplied to you absolutely free) and energy costs (solar heat), the main costs are formed only from the salaries of employees and the cost of packaging and transportation (fuel, if you use your own transport, or payment for transport services company).
All that is above this, at the minimum wholesale price of pure sea salt, is about 5000 rubles. for 1 ton - net profit of 800-900% of the cost. As you can see, almost no production has such a profitability.
But even a figure of several thousand percent is quite real to reflect the really good profitability of salt production. This happens, for example, in retail trade (i.e. selling products in small packages - plastic, cloth, paper and other bags, bottles and cans, etc.).
Among the promising additional (or emerging with the gradual expansion of business) directions, it should be noted the production of tinted - for example, blue or pink natural paint of sea salt - to give aesthetic appeal to the water in the pool and the production of aromatic (also often colored) bath salts. In addition, do not forget about simple table salt of various grindings - sea salt, which is more useful, is now gradually becoming more and more popular among housewives and demanding food gourmets.
More exotic, but also more profitable segments - delivery of pure sea water for filling pools; opening your own “sea” pool or even a private thalassotherapeutic mini-resort in the middle or even northern strip of Russia; mini-aquariums for training divers or direct diving; the construction of fountains in a marine style or the sale of small souvenir bottles filled with sea water, shells and pebbles from the sea.
As you can see, there are a lot of alternative and additional directions, all of them are very original, and can become very, very profitable for a person who does not have a large starting capital.
